State police at Frackville — crashes
State police at Frackville reported on several crashes in Schuylkill County:
• Two vehicles involved in a crash at 2:51 p.m. Aug. 13 on Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township sustained minor damages, state police said,
Police said a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling in the right lane and attempted to enter the left lane when it struck a 2019 Lexus in the rear.
• Troopers were summoned to a hit-and-run incident at 4:29 a.m. Aug. 22 at the intersection of West Blaine and South Harrison streets in McAdoo.
Police said an unknown vehicle traveling east on Blaine Street struck the front end of a parked 2010 Mercedes-Benz with the driver fleeing the scene.
• Mary A. Zakrewsky, 79, of Barnesville, was slightly injured in a two-vehicle incident at 12:25 p.m. Aug. 19 at the intersection of Barnesville Drive and Mansure Road in Ryan Township, police said.
Zakrewsky was driving a 2016 Buick Enclave while Todd S. Harper, 44, of Tamaqua. was operating a 2020 Dodge postal van. Harper was not injured. Police did not include other details.
• George M. Reed, 39, of Port Carbon, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 2:53 p.m. Aug. 30 on Interstate 81 in Cass Township.
Police said he was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Sonic northbound when he lost control of the vehicle during a rainstorm. The car traveled through the northbound lanes of traffic and struck a concrete barrier on the east berm.
• A 2015 Infiniti had to be towed from Interstate 81 after it struck a deer.
It happened at 11 p.m. Sept. 3 near mile marker 131 in Mahanoy Township.
Police said Juan R. Mairena, 42, of Mahanoy City, was operating the vehicle southbound. After striking the deer, the car came to rest on the right shoulder of the road.
Mairena and a passenger were uninjured, police said.
• Philip I. Klemow, 35, of Frackville, suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 2:16 a.m. Sept. 3 on Route 61 in New Castle Township, state police said.
He was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township, after the crash.
Police said he was driving a 1999 Nissan Frontier southbound and was driving too fast for conditions when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The vehicle left the highway and traveled off the right shoulder of the road where it struck a utility pole.
The vehicle sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
Police said Klemow was cited for the incident.
• Police said a tire fell off a vehicle as it traveled on South Ferguson Street in Shenandoah at 3:19 a.m. Sept. 4, resulting in the vehicle striking a parked vehicle and then striking a pole.
The driver, Leonardo Carrasco, 22, of Shenandoah, was uninjured.
Police said he was driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee east when the tire came off the vehicle and it crashed into a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox before striking the pole.
The Cherokee was towed from the scene.
• A vehicle sideswiped a parked car on West Blaine Street in McAdoo at 3:53 p.m. Sept. 7, and the driver fled the scene.
The 2009 Chevrolet was legally parked when it was struck by what is believed to be a Toyota Corolla. The parked vehicle sustained damages to its driver’s side rear and front doors and driver’s side mirror.
• Randy J. Gilson, 59, of Coaldale, was cited after a crash at 10:51 a.m. Sept. 8 in Coaldale.
Police said he was driving a vehicle north on First Street and attempted to merge onto Route 209 to travel west when it struck a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Andrew Hoffa, 29, of Denver, Pa.
Police said Gilson suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by Lehighton Ambulance personnel.
Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.
