Carbon County Court - Sentencings

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday on a drug count and drunken driving charges.

Daniel Hollan, 38, of Lansford, was one of seven defendants who previously pleaded guilty to criminal charges and were sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Hollan was charged on Feb. 12, 2021, following a vehicle stop by state police at Lehighton in front of the Diggity Dog hot dog stand in Lehighton. Troopers charged him with possession of methamphetamine, DUI and driving under suspension - DUI related.

On the possession count, Serfass sentenced him to serve one day less 12 to one day less 24 months in prison. On the DUI he was placed on probation for 6 months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and on the suspension count ordered to serve 45 to 90 days in jail and pay a fine of $500. The jail term runs concurrent with the possession charge.

Hollan was previously placed in the county’s Drug Treatment Court program but was terminated from it for violating conditions.

He is an inmate in the county prison and was given credit for 53 days already served. He was also ordered to render a total of 125 hours of community service when paroled and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use.

In other cases:

• Ralph Thomas Laughlin, 65, of East Stroudsburg, was sentenced to serve 3 to 12 months in prison on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was charged on Feb. 15, 2020, by Lehighton police following a vehicle stop. A pipe for smoking illegal substances was found on him.

He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

He began the jail term immediately and was given 4 days credit.

• Timother Eugene Keiper, 30, of Lansford, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to 6 months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, and was given one year license suspension. He was charged on Jan. 7 by state police at Lehighton along Union Hill Road in Franklin Township.

His sentencing was done via video from the state prison at Dallas, Luzerne County, where he is to be resentenced on a parole violation.

• Sandra May Sommers, 34, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to 6 months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, and given a one year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Aug. 12, 2021, by state police at Lehighton.

She will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. on Sept. 9.

• Danielle Dolly, 25, an inmate at the Clinton County prison in McElhattan, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to 6 months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, and given a license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service. She was arrested on Feb. 22, 2019, by Lansford police. Her sentencing was done via video from Clinton County.

She was given credit for five days already served and paroled.

• Dakota Syphya Klynowsky, 27, of White Haven, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, render 100 hours of community service and attend and successfully complete parenting classes. She was arrested on Feb. 22, 2021, by Weatherly police for DUI along Main Street. On a driving without a license count she was fined $200.

She completed 87 days in a inpatient rehabilitation program and was given credit against the sentence.

She will begin the three remaining days on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.

• Cody Andrew Fronheiser, 22, of Palmerton, was placed on probation for 6 months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 on a DUI charge and also render 25 hours of community service. He was arrested on June 4, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 in Franklin Township.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
