State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 11:33 a.m. on Aug. 28 along Route 54, near Tippetts Road, in Nesquehoning. Troopers said Victor Perez Jr., 57, of Lansford, was driving a 2008 Honda Odyssey westbound when he became distracted while using his cellphone. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck a tree along an embankment. After impact the vehicle traveled in a northeast direction about 10 feet before coming to final rest facing south.

Perez was injured and taken to St. Luke’s Miners Hospital, Coaldale, by Lehighton ambulance. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Assisting troopers were volunteers from the New Columbus and Lake Hauto fire companies.

Perez was cited for the crash.

• Troopers reported investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred on Aug. 4 at 3:22 p.m. along Shade Street in Middleport borough. Troopers said an investigation revealed a tractor trailer truck attempted to drive up Shade Street, which is a dead end road. The driver noticed he was on a dead end road and attempted to back up. His trailer was too tall and struck wires over the roadway. The truck pulled the wires out of a nearby residence, causing damages to the home and the residence lost electrical power. The truck also pulled a pole out of the ground pulling the wires down. The driver continued to back up and then fled the scene.
