Weisstock ready for Labor Day weekend

The second annual Weisstock Festival will be Sept. 2 from 5 to 10 p.m. and Sept. 3 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Last year’s festival raised funds for a new roof for St. Peter’s Community Resource Center. This year the festival is two days and will benefit both St. Peter’s and the Weissport Event Committee.

“We had a group last year trying to fundraise to replace the roof on the center,” Nicole Baker, director of St. Peter’s Center, said. “We had people throwing out a bunch of ideas. I said, ‘Why don’t we come up with a new festival?’ I know the community really enjoys it.”

The Weissport Event Committee has been making tie-dye T-shirts to sell at the festival.

Other vendors include: Tastefully Simple, Arbonne, Pure Romance, Thirty-one Gifts, Strohl Woodcrafts, LASD Parents Co-Op, Scentsy, 3rd Street Studio, and Chica Mod Tie Dye.

Two of the food vendors are Phil’s French Fries and the Parryville Fire Co. food trailer.

There will be three contests at the festival: karaoke on Friday at 7 p.m., pizza eating on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., and limbo on Saturday at 6 p.m.

There will be rides and games, a basket auction, 50/50 and more. Sweet Revenge will perform from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Nonprofit groups and area churches can have a table or space, with a donation being made to Weisstock.

St. Peter’s Community Resource Center is a bare-necessities pantry, and is open the fourth Saturday of the month. It’s open to SNAP residents of Lehighton, Palmerton and Jim Thorpe school districts. The center is at 177 Main Road, Franklin Township.
