Local roundup: Results from Aug. 26

Three area schools picked up multiple victories on Friday.

Northern Lehigh and Northwestern each posted wins in boys and girls soccer action, while Palmerton claimed victories in field hockey and golf.

Elsewhere, Pleasant Valley’s volleyball team also opened the season with a win.

BOYS SOCCER

Notre Dame ES-

Northern Lehigh

Bryce LoPinto’s four goals sparked Northern Lehigh to a 4-2 non-conference win over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

Michael Wilk and Logan Berfield had assists for the Bulldogs and goalie Ethan Kunkle made seven saves.

Northwestern-Pennsbury

Matt Johnson scored two goals as Northwestern shut out Pennsbury 2-0 in a non-conference match.

The Tigers’ Jack Mauro and Caelen Stangil had assists and goalie Damian Krampf made three saves.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jim Thorpe, No. Lehigh, Northwestern

at Lions Invitational

Northwestern’s Matthew Santana finished second in the Lions Cross County Invitational at Moravian Academy on Friday.

Jordan Remmel of Jim Thorpe placed 12th.

In the girls race, Angela Klein of Northwestern placed ninth and Jim Thorpe’s Nicole Carroll was 17th.

Northwestern’s boys team finished second in the AA meet.

Northern Lehigh’s girls took second place in the A team competition, while Northwestern was second and Jim Thorpe third in the AA girls meet.

In the boys competition, the winners were Lehigh Valley Academy (A), Holy Ghost Prep (AA) and Nazareth (AAA).

In the girls competition, the winners were Notre Dame GP (A), Saucon Valley (AA) and Abington Heights (AAA).

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Lehighton

Three different players scored as Palmerton opened the season with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Lehighton.

Kira Hauser, Sydney Frantz and Kelsey Balliet scored for the Bombers, while Frantz and Clair Frank added assists.

The Bombers’ goalie Emily Bollinger made five saves. Lehighton goalie Grayson Frey made 16 saves.

Pleasant Valley-Emmaus

Emmaus defeated Pleasant Valley 12-0 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match.

Emmaus had 28 shots to zero for Pleasant Valley.

Rachel Herbine had five goals and Hailey Cook two.

GIRLS SOCCER

Notre Dame ES-

Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh rolled to a 11-0 non-conference victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

The Bulldogs had a 30-1 shot advantage. Katelynn Barthold had four goals and Nicole Zarayko and Victoria Hanna each had two. Kaylee Wilk, Gabriella Hanna and Aiyana Bosch added goals.

Dekotah Barthold and Keona Dyer shared the goalie duties.

Scranton Prep-Northwestern

Northwestern edged Scranton Prep in a 2-1 non-conference game.

Cammy Fitch and Juliet Benvin scored for the Tigers, and Sarah Renner and Quinn Conrey had assists.

Naomi Glassberg started in goal and had three saves. Reinhard replaced Glassberg after she got hurt and made two saves.

GOLF

Southern Lehigh-Palmerton

In a battle of Colonial League unbeatens, Palmerton stayed perfect with a 418-422 win over Southern Lehigh.

Palmerton (8-0, 7-0 CL) had an 11-stroke lead after the first nine holes, and held off the Spartans (6-1, 6-1) on the back nine. The Bombers’ Tyler Hager and the Spartans’ Colin Sarnoski tied for medalist honors with four-over-par 76s.

The Bombers’ Connor Reinhard and the Spartans’ Frankin Boensch each shot 77.

Allen-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley scored a 25-7, 25-7, 25-18 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over William Allen.

Jackie James had nine assists, five kills, three aces and three digs for the Bears, and Brianna Bruckman chipped in with 10 assists, four digs and three aces.

Also for the Bears, Nora Jones (10 kills, one assist), Alexis Wilkes (six assists), Sarah Ballek (eight kills, two blocks), Lexi Womack (three kills, two aces, two digs) and Hannah Akob (five aces, two kills) contributed.
