Former JT superintendent named acting principal of NL high school

A former Jim Thorpe superintendent has been selected as acting principal at Northern Lehigh High School.

On a 7-0 vote, Northern Lehigh School Board on Monday approved the employment agreement between the district and John Rushefski.

The agreement for Rushefski is from Aug. 24 through June 30, 2023, at a salary of $445 per day not to exceed 190 days.

Robert Vlasaty has been principal at Northern Lehigh High School since July 2011.

Asked by a reporter about the status of Vlasaty, Northern Lehigh School District Superintendent Matthew J. Link said he couldn’t share information.

“Because it is a personnel item, and I have to respect his privacy and confidentiality,” Link said.

Rushefski served as superintendent of Jim Thorpe Area School District until June.

His contract with the district expired June 30, and Jim Thorpe Area School Board did not offer an extension.

Rushefski had been Jim Thorpe’s top administrator since July 2019.

In June, Jim Thorpe School Board appointed Robert Presley of South Abington Township, Lackawanna County, to be the district’s top administrator, at a salary of $122,000.

Presley has been a school administrator for 13 years, most recently serving as high school principal at Riverside Junior-Senior High School in Lackawanna County.
