Hikes planned in Schuylkill

Joint the park naturalist from Tuscarora State Park, Barnesville, on a hike to Leaser Lake at 10 a.m. Aug. 14. The hike will take participants to a new place to explore. The meeting place will be at the north boat ramp located at 7826 Ontelaunee Road in New Tripoli. The hike is 5 miles long and moderate in difficulty.

The Liberty trail winds around the 117-acre lake. There is a nice mixture of different habitats. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed an get along with other pets and people. Bring a lunch. Shine only.

Preregistration for the hike in necessary by calling Robin Tracey at 570-467-2506. Participants can meet the park naturalist at the Tuscarora Visitor Center at 9 a.m. if you wish to follow her to the site.

A hike to explore the mountain behind Locust Lake State Park, Barnesville, will be held Aug. 21 at 10:30 a.m. Participants will also visit the Silver Creek Fire Tower. The hike is 5 miles long and moderate in difficulty. The pine stands and brush are perfect habitat for birds and other wildlife. Meet at the visitor parking lot of the park located before the contact station at 10:15 a.m. Participants will be traveling to another area to start the hike. Bring a lunch and your dog for a nice relaxing hike in the woods. All pets must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Shine only.
