Man faces drug charges in undercover buy

A Philadelphia man has been charged with attempting to sell crystal methamphetamine to an undercover officer at a hotel in Lehighton.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Cpl. Eric Randazzo of the Pennsylvania State Police Troop C Eastern Unit in the case against David Watson:

On July 25, a criminal informant spoke to Watson, who said that he would deliver a large amount of crystal methamphetamine and would arrive at the Country Inn & Suites at 1619 Interchange Road, Lehighton.

At 11:30 a.m. a white Chevrolet SUV exited I-476 northbound ramp and traveled through the toll booth.

Troopers advised undercover members that the driver fit the description of Watson, 34.

The vehicle traveled on Route 209 southbound and then back toward the hotel on 209 northbound, where it pulled into the lot and pulled next to an undercover vehicle.

Watson pulled to the rear of the hotel parking lot, where marked PSP patrol units then converged on the vehicle.

Watson, the sole occupant, was taken into custody without incident. At that time, police detected an odor of marijuana on Watson.

At 12:25 a.m. July 26, a search warrant was executed. Police found about 6 pounds of crystal methamphetamine that was concealed inside of two shoe boxes, in the rear passenger compartment of the SUV.

Watson faces charges of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered; use/possession of drug paraphernalia; criminal use of communication facility; and marijuana, small amount personal use.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 straight bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Aug. 31 before District Judge William J. Kissner of Palmerton.
