Post 927 meets

Thursday at 6:30 p.m. American Legion Post 927 members are having a meeting for “A” members. Guests are welcome, but only “A” members can vote on motioned items.

Art classes

Our Lady Queen of Peace hosts summer art classes with artist Jean Perry from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cafe. The next class will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Thursday, with “the butterfly” the topic, in watercolor on paper. All materials are supplied, but there is a cost.

Senior lunches

The Chestnuthill Senior Center, operating out of the Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville, is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

The menu for Friday is spinach and Swiss egg scramble. For next Wednesday it is orange balsamic chicken.

Meal reservations are due two days in advance and can be made by calling site director Donna Riedel, manager, at 570-242-6770.

Pantry open

The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The pantry is seeking back-to-school supplies including new backpacks, single subject notebooks, binders, folders, highlighters, lunchboxes, new sneakers, new underwear and new school uniforms.

Bike Night

Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m., it is time for a Bike Night at American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert. The event is open to the community, beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing through 9 p.m.

It features The Buzz Band live.

There will be a Best Bike contest, as well as a cash bar, food and more.

Open table

St. Peter’s UMC will celebrate Holy Communion on Sunday. The church celebrates with an open table for all who are Christian.

Membership classes will be offered Aug. 15.

Special preacher

While Pastor Suzanne at St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is away, a member of the church will be filling the pulpit. The services continue to be held in the church grove at 9 a.m.

Holy Communion will be held the second Sunday of the month, Aug. 14.

Volunteers needed

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company is accepting applications for all positions.

Those so interested can stop by the Kresgeville station any Monday night or call 610-681-4370 and press 2 to leave a message for the fire chief.

Music jam

St. Peter’s UMC is hosting its next music jam on Tuesday.

Touch of Home

Operation: Touch of Home will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion in Gilbert.

Youth event

Youth in grades 7 to 12 and families are invited by Salem-St. Paul Church, Kresgeville, to attend a pool party and picnic Aug. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Estates pavilion and pool.

Breakfast served

A donation-only breakfast will be served at McMichaels Methodist church from 8 to 10 a.m. Aug. 13.

All may come and enjoy a full breakfast.

Pancake breakfast

Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 839 of Sciota invites the community to its monthly pancake breakfast on Aug. 14.

The breakfast features all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice, pastries and coffee.

The Lehigh Valley Miata Owners Club will display its prized sports cars. Additionally, the pilots of EAA 839 will offer free Young Eagle flights to youth ages 7 to 17. Parental release forms are required.

The pancake breakfast will be served rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the hangar, 222 Hickory Lane, Saylorsburg. Turn off Route 209 at Millers Flower Shop by Kate.

Seniors vouchers

Eligible Monroe County seniors can still get the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutritional Program vouchers for fresh produce.

There are quite a few participating markets and farmers in the West End.

Applications must be in by Sept. 30.

Summer concert

Next Wednesday the 2nd Street Players Tribute to Earth, Wind and Fire and More will be presented at the Saylorsburg Blue Ridge Flea Market as hosted by the Sherman Theater.

Gates open for season pass holders and members at 6 p.m. Gates open to the public at 6:15 p.m. Music begins at 7:30 p.m.

Parking is free and so is admission for children 12 and under.

Food truck fare will be available along with certain beverages.

Tickets can be purchased at shermantheater.com or the Sherman Theater Box Office, with a discount for Monroe County residents.

Auxiliary meets

The American Legion Auxiliary, Post 927, will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 10.

Horse show ahead

Local West Enders who are involved in miniature horses will be heading to Mount Bethel on Aug. 13 to the Cloverleaf Saddle Club grounds to participate in a miniature horse show. It begins at 10 a.m. and is free to the public.

The miniature horses will be shown by exhibitors of all ages in divisions from PeeWees, Juniors, Teen, Senior and Jack Benny. Classes range from halter to in-hand trail, driving, and gymkhana-type events.

Food will be available for purchase.

Spaghetti dinner

Also on Aug. 13 is the spaghetti dinner at Effort UMC from 3 to 6 p.m. Dinner will include spaghetti with a choice of plain marinara sauce, meat sauce - beef or sausage - or clam sauce, garlic bread, salad, beverage and a dessert. This will be a dine-in and/or takeout event. There will also be some gluten-free spaghetti and bread for the dinner.

Special program

In light of August being National Wellness Month, the four Monroe Senior Centers will each be hosting a special program, Boost your Mood with Food.

The Chestnuthill Center’s presentation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 24

Craft fair at QV

Quiet Valley will again host the Pocono State Craft Fair. It will run from Aug. 27 through Aug. 28.

Featured will be a Quiet Valley bake sale at the bake oven.

Volunteers are needed. Call Wayne Duerkes at 570-992-6161 to do so.

Golf tournament

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity 25th annual golf tournament is set for Sept. 28 at Great Bear Golf Club.
