Man dies after snake attack

The Lehigh County man who was found in cardiac arrest by police last week with a large snake wrapped around his neck, has died.

The Lehigh County coroner’s office said Elliot Senseman, 27, of Fogelsville, Upper Macungie Township, was pronounced dead on Sunday at 8:11 a.m. at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

The cause of death was anoxic brain injury due to asphyxiation by constriction.

A report from the Upper Macungie Township police said at 2:12 p.m. Friday officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of Church Street in Fogelsville for a man in cardiac arrest with a snake wrapped around his neck. On scene officers found Senseman unresponsive and lying on the floor of a home with the mid portion of a large snake wrapped around his neck. Due to the massive size of the reptile, estimated to be between 15 and 18 feet, one of the officers was able to shoot the snake in the head without risking further injury to the victim. Officers were able to pull Senseman to safety.

He was then taken to LVH.

The initial press release from the township police said the incident occurred on Friday. However, the coroner’s office indicate it occurred on Wednesday, July 20.
