Thorpe councilman resigns, cites lack of time

Jim Thorpe Borough will be looking to fill a council vacancy over the next month.

Councilman Kyle Sheckler resigned Thursday night, citing an inability to find the time needed to continue in the role.

“Times have changed in my life, and I can’t find enough time to properly honor the commitment necessary as a councilman,” Sheckler wrote in his resignation letter to the borough. “It has been a pleasure to work with council, the residents of Jim Thorpe, borough employees and the borough planning commission.”

Sheckler successfully ran for council in 2015 and 2019 in his second go-round with the governing body.

His current term runs through the end of 2023.

“We want to thank Kyle for all his service,” Council President Greg Strubinger said. “He’s been a valued member of council as our emergency services chairman and a member of the planning commission. We wish him all the best.”

The borough has 30 days to fill the vacancy. It will be accepting letters of interest through Aug. 2.

“We intend on making an appointment at our Aug. 11 meeting,” Strubinger said.
