W. Penn postpones public hearing on zoning ordinance

A public hearing on its zoning ordinance that had been scheduled for earlier this month in West Penn Township has been postponed.

Supervisors were originally set to hold a public hearing to review the township’s zoning ordinance at 5:30 p.m. July 5.

Instead, supervisors tentatively postponed the hearing until 5:30 p.m. Aug. 1.

Township solicitor Paul J. Datte informed the township in May that they had the final version of the zoning ordinance.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said at that time the board had several comments they’d like to have added.

In April, Datte said he was notified by Urban Research & Development Corporation that the final version of the zoning ordinance was expected to be ready.

The proposed new zoning ordinance would regulate the uses of land and structures, with various standards in different zoning districts.

It would also regulate signs, parking, the location and height of structures, and changes to existing structures, lots and uses that do not “conform” to the ordinance.

The ordinance would also include enforcement and penalty provisions.

It also includes zoning districts, allowed uses in each district, dimensional requirements for each district, additional requirements for specific uses, environmental protection, off-street parking and loading, signs, general regulations, administration and enforcement, definitions and a new zoning map.
