Annual speaker series begins at one-room schoolhouse

An annual community speaker series is scheduled to begin Thursday at the Kibler School Museum in Towamensing Township.

The Kibler One-Room School Committee has announced the “Three Thursdays in July” community speaker series will take place at 7 p.m. July 14, July 21 and July 28.

Planned speakers will include:

• July 14: Kerry Palumbo, on Pysanky eggs.

• July 21: Vince Hydro, speaking about the Switchback Railroad.

• July 28: Nancy Thompson and Michelle Novak will demonstrate the art of flower arrangement.

The presentations are usually concluded in 30 to 45 minutes, and those who attend are invited to stay for a social time that includes refreshments and tours of the school. There is no rain date for these events.

The Kibler School Museum is a restored one-room school which is preserved as it was when it served as a school for students from first to eighth grade in Towamensing Township until 1955.

The school at 6495 Pohopoco Drive, Lehighton, is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers, and is open to the public for tours and special events.

Each year the school across from Beltzville State Park and the Christman Trail Parking Area is the location for a series of speakers drawn from the community.
