Police: Husband kills retired Lehighton teacher, self

An East Penn man shot his wife Sunday night and turned the gun on himself, state police at Lehighton said.

School officials confirmed that Beth Ann Daubert, 66, was a retired biology teacher from Lehighton Area High School. She retired in 2020, after 20 years with the district.

At about 9 p.m., state police responded to 142-3 Daubert Lane, East Penn Township, Carbon County, for a report of a deceased man and woman inside the residence. Both victims were discovered with apparent gunshot wounds.

Police determined Gary Daubert shot Beth Ann and then turned the gun on himself.

They are releasing no other details at this time.

When the news broke, friends and colleagues posted Monday on social media.

Michelle Broadt said, “Such a tragic event. Mrs. Daubert was my son’s teacher. Prayers to their family for healing.”

Theresa Taylor said Beth Daubert was one of her daughter’s favorite teachers. “She was awesome,” she said.

Karla Costenbader-Kovach posted, “Beth was kind, caring, honest, and hard working. Prayers for her friends and family. She will be missed.”
