Lehighton woman sent to state prison for drug dealing

A Lehighton woman was sentenced to a state prison term in Carbon County court on a drug dealing charge.

Christy N. Hartman, 34, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 18 to 48 months in a state correctional institution on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

She was arrested by Mahoning Township police on Nov. 23, 2017, following a vehicle stop.

Hartman had entered the county’s drug treatment court program but was terminated from it after violating the rules.

She told the court she had a relapse of drug use after a friend of hers died of a drug overdose. She previously entered a plea to the charge.

Prior to being sentenced, Hartman entered guilty pleas in two other pending cases to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident on Nov. 15, 2020, filed by Nesquehoning police; and to theft and access device fraud for an incident on Oct. 27, 2020, filed by county prison authorities to stealing a credit card and using it without permission.

On the theft count she was sentenced to serve 12 to 24 months in a state prison and three to six months on the access device fraud.

On the paraphernalia count she was fined $2,500. All the jail terms run concurrently.

She was given credit for 52 days already served. She was also ordered to pay court costs of over $1,000 and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use.

She is currently an inmate in the county prison and her sentencing proceeding was done via video from the county jail.
