Nesquehoning council
Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on or discussed the following items during its monthly meeting on Wednesday.
• Adopted a proclamation and resolution honoring the late Richard “Denny” Creitz, for his service to the borough through its fire department, fire police and borough organizations. Mayor Tom Kattner named June 24 as a day to remember Creitz.
The proclamation and resolution will be presented to his family.
• John McArdle, borough emergency management coordinator, reported on a municipal training he attended for Carbon County officials. The webinar was geared toward planning, preserving the community characteristics and aesthetics, such as fighting blight.
McArdle also said that through this, he is suggesting council make sure to begin looking at creating a plan for warehouses that may want to build in the borough because the warehouse business is on the rise.
• Councilwoman Mary Fox announced that the rehabilitation work of unit 2 at the wastewater treatment plant has finally been completed. The project has been in the works for approximately three years due to problems with work that was done by the company hired to do the job.
• Councilman Louis Paul announced that from 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 6, the borough, through RRS Electronics Recycling, will hold an electronics recycling event on Locust Street. More information will be released closer to time.
• Council moved on purchasing a sign for the newly renamed Johnson-Jacobs Memorial Park along West Railroad St. The cost is $625.
• There will be no bingo at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center in July.
• The annual Recreation Commission Yard Sale will take place on Aug. 13 and 14. To register your location to be included on a map, contact any member of the recreation commission. Maps will be available of all yard sales who registered.
