Demolition of a property at 252 W. Cottage Ave. in Tamaqua is almost complete.
“It should be finished within the next few weeks,” borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt told council members Tuesday evening.
As that project wraps up, the borough is seeking to demolish four more properties.
Among them are 517 Washington St., 130 Clay St., 161 Penn St., and 300-302 Race St.
The borough intends to use Community Development Block Grant funds to knock those buildings down, and as such, it must seek bids before proceeding with the work. He has been in contact with Schuylkill County officials, who must approve the bid advertisement.
In other business, council:
• Adopted an ordinance prohibiting parking on both sides of South Street between Coal and Bowe streets.
• Denied a handicapped parking space application for 302 Spruce St. because it would exceed the number of handicapped spaces permitted in that block. The request was placed on a waiting list.
• Approved fire station warning signs for the streets approaching each volunteer fire company.
• Approved the permanent transfer of Ernie Shilko to the street maintenance/sweeper operator position.
• Accepted the resignation of Dave Surotchak as water plant operator.
