Hootenanny returns to Summit Hill on Sunday

Summit Hill’s original annual folk festival makes a return to the community on Sunday.

The ninth annual Hootenanny, interrupted the past two years by COVID restrictions, will be held in Ludlow Park from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The event is free, with various bands performing throughout the day.

Sarah Ruch, one of the founders of Hootenanny who has been active every year, will be performing with the band Free Range Folk. The band is well-known for its folk music style as well as its incorporation into its shows of some old-time musical instruments.

Preceding Hootenanny, there will be free yoga lessons in Ludlow Park beginning at 10 a.m.

Vendors will have food, souvenirs, crafts and assorted items for sale. There will be fun activities for all ages.

The lineup of the entertainment is as follows:

• Pennsylvania Villagers (a polka band), 11 a.m. to noon.

• Big Valley Bluegrass, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

• Ecospheres, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

• Hex Highway Blues Band, 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.

• Free Range Folk, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

• Keystone Groove, 6:45 to 8 p.m.

Clayton Avers and his open mic will be at the gazebo from 1-4 p.m.

Hootenanny was the name of a TV show that ran for two seasons in the 1960s and aired each week from a different college campus. It consisted of live music by various groups.
