Lansford woman starts little lending library

You are never too old to instill the love of reading in a person.

Just ask Jeanne McArdle.

The 91-year-old recently installed a little lending library in front of her home at 364 W. Bertsch St., Lansford, in the hopes of bringing a little joy to her community.

“I’ve always been a voracious reader,” McArdle said. “A couple times I have seen these little libraries so I said to my son, I would love to have one.”

Her son went to work and found a little library and placed it in front of her home.

McArdle welcomes anyone to come and take a book, and leave a book or two in its place.

“It’s the same concept as other lending libraries,” she said. If you want to come take a book or if you want to leave a book, feel free to do so.”

McArdle, who loves the Panther Valley Library on the other end of town, feels this is like an extension to that in that anyone can use it, and it promotes reading.

When not bringing joy to her little corner of Lansford, McArdle is active in bowling, playing cards and is a seasoned traveler.
