Parryville dedicates its new tanker truck

Parryville Fire Company dedicated its new tanker at a community picnic Saturday.

Chief Mike Kunkle said that when they received the tanker back in October of last year, it was a long time coming since the town only had one fire hydrant. The fire company’s team got to work to get funding and found the best deal that happened to be located 1,400 miles away in Tennessee.

During the 3 p.m. tank dedication ceremony, Kunkle added, “We are a good team and we hope this purchase will last for a long time in Parryville to support the community.”

The tanker supplies 2,100 gallons of water and is used to supply the main trucks but has the capability of extinguishing fires directly from the tanker itself in a true emergency as well.

The event began after Kunkle’s speech and lasted until around 10 p.m. which included a cake walk, live music, open kitchen food, meat raffle, Chinese auction and a funnel cake stand.

Children-friendly games, including corn hole, were also set up on the property.

Volunteering for the fire company were mother and son, Theresa and Rhyder Chapman, members of Troop 8 in Parryville. Affiliates of Troop 8 often volunteer for the fire company due to their sponsorship of the local Boy Scout group.

“They had no hesitation in helping us out, so we volunteer for them whenever we can,” Theresa Chapman said.

Live music was performed by “Last One Standing,” a band covering a mix of classic rock, country, and the oldies.
