Franklin Township supervisors

Franklin Township supervisors approved the following action last week:

• $90,487 to AMS for seal coating on various roads in the township for 50,000 square yards of single bituminous seal coat.

• A bid award to Lehigh Asphalt for road materials, with all the proper paperwork.

• An amendment to contract regarding Waste Management of Pennsylvania Inc. and the township changing the price per ton due to the additional travel distance. The township had been paying $72 per ton when taking the garbage to Walnutport. This lowers the rate to $55 per ton, though it will now be taking it to Pen Argyl.

• On a 2-1 vote, to submit the draft Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance for grant submission. Supervisor Jason Frey was opposed.

• On a 2-1 vote, to submit the draft zoning ordinance and updated zoning map for grant submission. Supervisors Jason Frey was opposed.

• Officer David Roberts to attend a Basic Criminal Investigation Course at the Northwest Training Center in Meadville from May 9-13, with the costs to be reimbursed by the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office.

• Request from the Lehighton Area School District to have the township’s fire police assist with traffic control/parking for the high school graduation ceremony. In the event of inclement weather on June 10 and June 11, graduation will be held on June 12 at the Multipurpose Stadium from 5-8:30 p.m.

• Request from Palmerton Borough for the assistance of the township fire police for the Palmerton Memorial Day Parade on May 30.

• Request from township fire Chief Lynn Diehl to have the township’s volunteer fire company participate in the LAHS Senior Graduation Parade to be held on June 8.

• Request from Diehl to have the township’s volunteer fire company participate in the Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade at 11 a.m. May 30.

• Road crew members Shawn Yeakel, Justin Andrews and Alex Hawk to attend a flagger trainer class on June 16 at the Carbon County EMA Building at a fee of $50 per person.

• Change in garbage collection pickup for the Memorial Day holiday from May 30 pickup to May 31.

• To not take action on the Permissive License Agreement at 888 Main Road where the current owners placed a fence on their property, which is now in the township’s right of way. The township had a “permissive agreement” with the current owners allowing the fence to be in the township’s right of way, however, they are selling their home.
