Commissioners support mental health funding

Monroe County Commissioners are supporting increased funding in the state budget for the mental health system. The board passed a resolution calling for funding.

“Many different commissioners across the state are doing the same thing,” Commissioners’ Chairman Sharon Laverdure said.

By pooling energies together, Laverdure said the hope is “to get more funding to help those in dire need and that will be done through this resolution.”

Carbon and Schuylkill county also support funding.

Before the meeting ended, Commissioner John Moyer and Laverdure both expressed thanks to all the people involved in making the voting process run as smoothly as it did this primary.

“I would just like to take the opportunity to thank those brave souls that stood for election, whether they were successful or not. That’s a very important thing to our democracy. And I certainly thank them, congratulate the winners and suggest to the losers that they try again,” Moyer said.

“I would also like to thank the people that came out and voted. I’m thanking the people that voted either in person or by mail, and the mail ballots will begun to be counted in approximately 15 minutes. But it appears as if somewhere between 25 and 30% of the registered voters have voted. That number can be confirmed after we do the counts, but relatively good showing. And again, congratulations to those who won. I’d also like to thank those poll workers, those folks that worked inside the polls, we are still looking for more people that would like to do that. And there are trainings to help you understand the process, so if you would have any concerns or questions about that, please, reach out to voter registration. Get your name on the list for the future or November, because we are looking for people to fill those positions,” Laverdure said.
