Lehighton Area School District plans to reopen its high school auditorium pending favorable test results following mold remediation efforts.
Acting Superintendent Jack Corby said remediation was completed over the weekend. “Right after the mold was discovered, tests were conducted and thankfully there were no serious contamination issues in either the immediate area or adjoining areas,” Corby said. “Remediation efforts began immediately.”
The mold, according to Corby, was caused by runoff water previously getting into an area of the outside wall.
Lehighton’s school board on Monday night unanimously ratified acceptance of a proposal from Sargent Enterprises Inc. of Jim Thorpe to perform the mold remediation. The work was approved at a cost not to exceed $21,835.
Also related to the project, the board ratified acceptance of a proposal from JMSI Environmental Corp. to provide project management and services related to the mold issue at a cost not to exceed $5,260.
