Jim Thorpe honors former mayor on 80th birthday

The borough of Jim Thorpe honored former Mayor Ronald Confer with a special resolution on his 80th birthday.

Confer received the resolution Saturday from Mayor Michael Sofranko during a party attended by friend and family and held at the Hometown Volunteer Fire Company in Rush Township.

Confer served Jim Thorpe for more than 50 years following his service in the United States Army. He held positions of fire chief, borough councilman and mayor.

“The borough of Jim Thorpe and the mayor wish to, by this resolution, express our appreciation and gratitude for his service to the borough and his service to the people of Jim Thorpe collectively and individually,” the resolution notes. “That we, his friends, and fellow municipal officials officially recognize his service to the borough of the course of five decades.”

The resolution was adopted by the borough on May 12. Confer turned 80 on May 14.
