Keer concludes baseball career at Shepherd University

Marian High School graduate Daniel Keer recently wrapped up a stellar baseball career at NCAA Division 2 Shepherd University.

Keer played in 120 games for Shepherd during his five years in the program, starting 100 of them.

Keer had a career batting average of .333 (116-for-348), an on-base percentage of .418, and a slugging percentage of .520. He had 37 extra base hits, including 14 home runs. He knocked in 87 runs and scored 81.

Keer, a first team all MEC selection following his sophomore year in 2019, had both his junior and senior seasons cut short. In 2020, COVID canceled the Shepherd season after just 16 games. A year ago, Keer suffered a serious hand injury that ended his season after 19 games. In both seasons, Keer had the team’s top batting average at the time his season came to an end, hitting .373 in 2020 and .386 in 2021.

Keer played as a graduate senior this past season. Despite having to deal with screws placed in his hand following surgery a year ago, he started 38 of the Rams’ 41 games, hitting .296 with 37 hits in 125 at-bats, including eight doubles and five home runs. He drove in 23 runs and scored 23 runs. He was third on the team in home runs, doubles, and RBIs; and was fourth in batting average and runs scored.

Shepherd had an 18-22-1 overall record this season.

Keer, the son of Christine and Tom Keer of Lehighton, was the 2018 Times News Baseball Player of the Year.
