Learn about the cat shelter in TN webinar

Take a virtual tour of the Carbon County Friends of Animals cat shelter in Jim Thorpe, meet the director and find out the many ways you can help cats.

The Times News’ first In the Know webinar is happening at 8 p.m. Monday. The In the Know series is designed to give organizations and businesses a chance to relay information in a virtual setting.

People are invited to sign up and ask questions through the Zoom chat feature. Registration is free.

Discussing the new feature, Times News advertising director Jen Benninger said, “It’s a way to speak directly to your customers or gain new ones by using an In the Know sponsored webinar.”

On Monday, people can learn how the shelter operates and what to do if they need to bring a cat to the shelter.

“Don’t just show up,” said shelter manager Dana Dunbar. “Call and make arrangements prior to coming, because we have limited space.”

In the past few years, the shelter has managed to reduce its population to 126 cats.

CCFOA has worked with Rush Veterinary Center to treat cats, doing dental work and treating medical issues to make the cats more adoptable. Through spending money to do this, a lot of older cats have been adopted.

Still Dunbar predicted the population will be up to 140 by Monday.

That’s why fundraisers are so important. The shelter is always looking for new fundraising ideas and new volunteers to help with fundraisers.

Dunbar also hopes to connect with some new veterinarians.

Rush Veterinary Center offers a discount and dedicates time to treat cats. Unfortunately, a lot of vets are so busy with their own clientele that they don’t have extra appointments available.

The shelter has so many ways to volunteer.

Besides visiting the cats, people can fold laundry, maintain the lawn or other maintenance or build cat shelves.

If you are interested in conducting a webinar through the In the Know series, contact Benninger by call or text at 484-225-8369 or email her jbenninger@tnonline.com.

“Let the Times News do all of the work for you,” Benninger said.

“We will advertise, gather participant registrations, set up and host the webinar. All you need to do is present information about your business and answer any questions at the end.

“This webinar will live on our YouTube site indefinitely.”

Benninger said the Times News is planning to offer more types of content marketing in the future.

“The Times New reaches 61% of the local market. Your business or organization should too,” Benninger said.
