Smooth transition for Ross voters at new site

Mt. Eaton Church’s Beacon Hall had a stream of Ross Township voters all day Tuesday.

For this election and going forward, Ross Township was divided into two districts. District 15-1 voted at the church and District 15-2 voted at the Ross Township Municipal Building on Anchorage Road, which had been its only polling place until now.

“Most people got the notification to come here. A couple residents came here by mistake, so we sent them over to the municipal building,” said Holly Parker, Judge of Election for Ross District 15-1.

By late afternoon, 254 residents had come through to vote.

“Yes, this was a very convenient location. I got a letter in the mail with my new voting card,” said Robert Pecca, who moved here 14 months ago.

Cristina Freeman, who has been an Election Board volunteer off and on for 20 years, said the church hall is a lot bigger than the municipal building.

“Plus, we got all new equipment. These beautiful iPads are much easier to use than flipping through all those books,” Freeman said.

The morning setup went very smoothly.

“Everyone was very helpful,” said Parker. “We have a had a good day so far. No fights, no disgruntled people and no issues here.”

Dolly Whittaker spent her day politicking for State Rep. Rosemary Brown.

“I was at the municipal building for a while. It had a come and go flow and then moments where it was slow,” said Whittaker, who wore a T-shirt, hat and pin with the candidate’s name on it.

After voting at the municipal building and an eye doctor appointment, Whittaker drove over to the church to do more campaigning.
