Summit Hill firefighters detail food festival plans

Representatives of Diligence Fire Co. No. 1 of Summit Hill addressed the Summit Hill Borough Council this week to continue their plans for a Food Truck Festival they are planning to hold on May 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Ludlow Park.

The firefighters said at least six food truck owners confirmed their participation to date. They include S&S Philly’s Famous Italian Ice, Paul & Charlie’s Italian Sausage, The Traveling Curbside Grill, Langan’s Patties, Atomic Hogs Pit BBQ & Catering, and Grumpy’s BarBQue Roadhouse.

In addition, 10 nonfood vendors will be in attendance. The festival will also feature a bounce house and a variety of games for children; a local group, Vinyl Persuasion, will perform from 3-6 p.m.; and a cornhole tournament will be held with a 30-team limit.

The Summit Hill Recreation Center will be selling breakfast sandwiches on Memorial Day, May 30.

Yoga classes will start at the community center on June 1, and will be held from 6-7 p.m. in the center.

And a dedication of the new Hero Tree in Ludlow Park will be held May 15 at 1 p.m.

In other business

• Mayor Jeffrey Szczecina said the borough received a check from the district justice for $1,129.45; and two checks from the county for $87.47 and $12.44, for a total of $98.71; grand total of $1,228.16.

• Police Chief Todd Woodward’s request to remove Officer Christopher Fischi from his probationary status to a full-time status was approved.

“His six months were up last month,” Woodward said, adding, “I’ve had nothing but positive responses from the community about Chris. He’s done a fantastic job.”

• The chief’s report showed during the period April 7 through May 5, police handled a total of 357 calls; made 4 criminal arrests, issued 35 traffic citations and 5 nontraffic citations, and wrote 3 quality-of-life tickets, and 53 parking tickets. Noteworthy incidents included one arrest for domestic violence, three arrests for drug law violations, two sexual assaults were reported, and three arrest warrants were served.

• The tax collector’s report showed the borough received the following revenue for April: occupational taxes , $2,763.60; real estate taxes, $167,739.67; per capita taxes, $2,337.60; overage in deposits, $12.25; total collected, $172,853.12; commission, $5,185.59.

• Portnoff Law Associates reported it collected $1,328.79 in delinquent real estate taxes and $137.36 for notice expense reimbursement, for a total in April of $1,466.15. The year-to-date collections totaled: real estate, $37,551.10; expense reimbursement, $3,336.14; total, $40,887.24.

The borough offices will be closed May 30 and 31 in observance of Memorial Day.
