Walker Township Supervisors

Walker Township is repaying money received during the pandemic.

During payment of the bills, a question was raised about a payment in the amount of $2,455.03 paid to the United States Treasury.

Borough Secretary Anne Ostergaard explained.

“During COVID, you had to give someone so much time off if they had COVID, and the government was reimbursing us through payroll taxes for the time that you had to give them, but you could not let them use their sick or vacation time. The federal government would reimburse us. We got that credit, but the government took it back because we are a government entity and don’t qualify for it.”

• The Walker Township Park Recreation Board met to discuss the requirements needed to meet the requirements to obtain the DCNR Park Grant for repairs and upgrades to Wildcat Park.

They need to create a budget for the project, and need to set up a separate bank account to be used only for the grant money. The supervisors voted to approve that a new account be set up. Once that is set up, the DCNR can provide an initial payment of $25,000.

• Walker Township Supervisors approved a resolution to increase the fee for certification of tax bills from $10 to $15, the fee for duplicate tax bills will stay the same at $10, and the fee for returned checks paid to the tax collector will go from $25 to $40.

• Supervisors voted to approve the purchase of a new skid steer that would include a broom attachments, not to exceed $67,000.

“The new skid steer costs $59,000, and the broom attachment is $6,500,” Roadmaster Chad Felty said.

Using Municibids, Walker Township was able to raise $27,000 through the sale of their old skid steer, a trailer and a broom attachment.
