Weissport looking for police coverage
Weissport Borough Council continues its search for a new police officer.
Former Chief Matthew Williams resigned in March, and Weissport finds itself in the same position as other area municipalities - finding police officers.
Weissport is looking at other possibilities, including seeking help from other area municipalities.
“We plan to reach out to Lehighton mayor and the Franklin Township supervisors to see if someone on staff would be willing to work part time for us,” said Weissport Mayor Paulette Watson, “or if their police could help cover Weissport, even if just temporarily until we can get our own police chief. I don’t want to wait until the middle of summer with everything going on.”
Weissport Borough will continue accepting applications for the position of chief of police. Candidates must have their Act 120 certification and meet all necessary background checks. Anyone who would like to apply should contact Weissport Borough at 610-377-5606.
