West Penn approves its portion of joint road project
West Penn Township has approved its portion of this year’s joint 2022 road project.
Supervisors on Monday awarded its portion of the contract to Asphalt Maintenance Solutions LLC, which bid $156,590.
The 2022 Multi-Municipal Bituminous Seal Coat Bid is a joint venture between West Penn and Walker townships.
Walker supervisors are expected tonight to open bids and vote on it.
The base bid roads are parts of Mountain Road, Kettle Road, Swamp Road, and Reynolds Road. The alternate bid would include four different sections of Shady Lane and River Road.
Dog ‘cleanup’ station
Fred Gimbi, who maintains the township’s parks, told the board he has someone who would like to donate a dog “cleanup” station.
Gimbi said the person who would like to donate the station would like to remain anonymous, and will maintain and get rid of it for the next five years.
Another recycling bin
Supervisors also discussed another recycling bin.
However, the township has to measure and see if another would fit between the existing area.
The township plans to speak with the West Penn Fire Department about the matter.
Obstruction ordinance
Road department member Jeremy Frable recommended to supervisors that the township adopt a right-of-way obstruction ordinance to help during the winter when they are snowplowing.
The board plans to get a sample ordinance from PSATs to see if it’s something the township wants to have in place.
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
Under correspondence, it was noted that Hawk Mountain Sanctuary has created a 10-day immerse course for teenagers ages 15 to 17 based on service-learning as an intense residential field course.
Thanks to two donors, generous full and partial scholarships are available. Participants may be local, regional or out of state.
