Nesquehoning Borough Council discussed or acted on the following items during its monthly meeting last week.
• John McArdle, Nesquehoning Hose Company fire chief, announced that there is a burn ban in the borough for 30 days. This means that residents should not burn outdoors for any reason until the end of May.
• Council thanked Mayor Tom Kattner, as well as the fire companies for their swift work with the recent fire on West Catawissa Street.
McArdle also thanked Councilwoman Mary Fox and Meeds UMC for opening the church to the fire victims.
• Awarded a contract for paving along four streets in the borough. The contract is for approximately $125,000 and will cover two portions of High Street, part of West Ridge Street and DiVinci Alley.
• Council announced that the anticipated closure for Industrial Road for the railroad crossing renovation being completed by Reading and Northern Railroad is May 8.
• An electronics recycling event is being planned for September. More information will be released closer to time.
• Council began looking at what ARP money the borough received should be used for. The borough is looking at projects for road reconstruction, recreation, blight and more.
