Bowmanstown has awarded two paving projects that total over $80,000.
On a 4-0 vote, borough council on Tuesday approved the Lime Street and Ore Street paving projects.
Lehigh Asphalt, which bid $42,494, was awarded the contract for the Lime Street paving project.
Bracalante Construction turned in the other bid of $58,014.
Asphalt Maintenance Solutions earned the contract for the tar and chipping of Ore Street with a proposal of $38,562.
No other bids were received for the project.
Before the vote, borough engineer Jessica Rehrig noted that the borough had $66,000 in liquid fuels, and $14,968 in its streets fund, to afford both projects.
However, Councilman Rob Moyer initially questioned spending over $38,000 on tar and chip for the Ore Street project.
“We essentially exhaust our liquid fuels,” Moyer said. “I just don’t think it’s money well spent on the tar and chip.”
Council Vice President Darren Thomas, who ran the meeting in the absence of council President Pam Leiby, said he felt it best to bid it now since he doesn’t see prices coming down any time soon.
In other street project related matters, council recommended approval of application for payment No. 1 to Lehigh Asphalt for $55,639 for the Craig Street project.
Rehrig announced that the 2022 Community Development Block Grant application has been submitted to Carbon County.
She said the grant request is for about 600 feet of Lincoln Avenue from Route 895 to midblock for an estimated value of $198,518.
Councilman William Ravert, Councilwoman Donna Winter, and Leiby were absent.
