West Penn agrees to buy license plate reader for police vehicle

Another West Penn Township police vehicle will receive a license plate reader.

Supervisors on a 2-0 vote recently agreed to purchase the LPR for its officer truck for $12,275.

The board said the device would be paid for from out of the police department’s capital budget.

At present, both the police department’s Ford Explorer and Chevy truck already have license plate readers.

In other police department-related matters, the board:

• Agreed to spend an amount not to exceed $250 for a vacuum cleaner for the police department.

• Announced the police department received a donation of three batteries from John Brode from his business “Battery Man” for the department’s speed trailer.

• Announced the police department received a donation from Mauch Chunk Trust Company referred to as Bears & Bones. The employees of MCT collected stuffed animals, dog snacks, and gave a monetary donation for the police department.

• Thanked the township’s police department for the D.A.R.E. program at West Penn Elementary, along with resident Bryan Miller for a $250 donation to the police department.

“We’re very lucky to have the police department and (police) chief to continue the D.A.R.E. program, and citizens of the township who continue to amaze me,” board Chairman Tony Prudenti said.

Supervisor Tim Houser was absent.
