Ross Twp. to update website, resume summer concerts and find volunteers for park committee

The Ross Township supervisors voted to revamp the township website, host a summer concert series in the park, and recruit residents to join the park committee during Monday’s monthly supervisors meeting.

Supervisor Randy Detrick suggested hiring Matthew D’Elia, his friend who recently revamped Blue Ridge Winery’s website.

D’Elia works at the winery and Detrick is an owner.

Detrick abstained from the vote, which was 2-0 in favor of hiring D’Elia at a rate of $500.

Chairman James Zahoroiko and Vice Chairman David Shay admitted the current website is outdated and needs something to make it more dynamic.

Before the pandemic, Ross Township hosted a summer concert in August 2019. Supervisors were planning more for the following summer.

Last year, there was discussion during the spring but there was still a lot of uncertainty about crowds gathering.

The three supervisors voted to host a concert in the park on June 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. They are in search of a band and possibly a food truck to be part of the event.

There is $400 budgeted for each month’s concert.

“We can set the dates of the July and August concerts at our June meeting,” said Shay.

Shay said it is up to them to plan these events because the township’s park committee has no members right now.

It dissolved when its most active leader moved to a neighboring township.

“We need to advertise on our website and Facebook page that we are looking for park committee volunteers,” he said.

The mission of the park committee is to provide a variety of leisure activities that will develop and satisfy residents’ recreational needs. This mission includes beautification and promotion of the park.

Anyone interested in joining the park committee should call the township at 570-992-4990. The website is www.rosstwp.com.

Residents of one district will continue to vote at the Ross Township Municipal Building. Residents of the other district have been notified in writing to go to the new polling location at Mount Eaton Church, 7277 Mount Eaton Road, Saylorsburg.
