Elementary School Wide Positive Behavior and Intervention Support Program makes the grade
A Northern Lehigh School District elementary school program has made the grade.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tania Stoker shared results of the School Wide Positive Behavior and Intervention Support Program at Peters Elementary School, which was evaluated in March by the CLIU-21.
“I’m happy to report that Peters earned a 100% in their Tier I on Tiered Fidelity Inventory, which demonstrates essentially that they’ve maintained fidelity in the universal support, and they also earned an 88% in Tier II demonstrating fidelity for the first time at that tier,” Stoker said.
Stoker congratulated Peters Elementary Principal James Schnyderite, the team, staff and all of the students.
Schnyderite said the team that Stoker congratulated consists of school counselor Kelly Kromer, kindergarten teacher; Susanne Hegedus, first-grade teacher Lauren Schuster; second-grade teachers, Janet Bashore, and Lisa Hairston; and special education member Everly Brulia.
“They, as well as the entire staff, deserve kudos for what we do to make every day a positive day at Peters,” Schnyderite said.
Schoolwide Positive Behavior and Intervention Support Program is an anti-bullying program.
Northern Lehigh has adopted an all-out approach to counter bullying at every education level and reports were provided by each of the building principals.
Schnyderite previously said in Tier I, they teach students expected behaviors to all students in the school based on its core principles, in that they are expected to be responsible, be respectful, be safe, and be proud.
He said they also provide a framework for continued support of positive behavior, which includes rewarding good behavior; reteaching their expectations to students who exhibit challenging behaviors; and providing support to students who consistently demonstrate challenging behaviors.
“We teach behavior, we reward good behavior, and we provide support for students who are challenged with learning that behavior the first time in order to help them improve,” Schnyderite said previously. “To me, the best thing about our School Wide Positive Behavior and Support framework is that it is a proactive approach to managing behaviors.”
