Local Roundup: Results from April 4

Palmerton and Pleasant Valley both posted a pair of victories on the diamond to highlight Monday’s scholastic action.

BASEBALL

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Cole Beahm’s pitching carried Palmerton to a 3-1 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl. Beahm threw a complete-game, giving up just four hits and one run.

RBI singles by Chase Reph, Cole Serfass and Lucas Netznik produced the Bombers’ runs. In addition to his pitching, Beahm chipped in a couple of hits for Palmerton (2-2).

Allen-Pleasant Valley

Adam Meitzler’s big day at the plate propelled Pleasant Valley to a 7-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Allen.

Meitzler went two-for-three with a solo home run and a two-run double.

The Bears’ Ryan Kymer also knocked in two runs with a first-inning single that snapped a 1-1 tie.

Blake Walters threw six innings of seven-hit, one-run ball to earn the pitching win for the Bears.

Pleasant Valley improves to 4-1 on the season.

Southern Lehigh blanked Northern Lehigh 10-0 in Colonial League action.

Matt Tankard had a huge game for the Spartans. On the mound, he tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out seven, while at the plate he had four hits, including a home run, four RBIs, and scored twice. Will Woodring also had four hits for the winners.

Jackson Van Norman slapped a double for the Bulldogs. James Mann collected the only other Northern Lehigh hit in the game.

The Bulldogs (0-6) are still looking for their first win of the season.

Salisbury-Northwestern

A big first inning lifted Salisbury to a 6-1 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

The Falcons, who had just two hits in the game, combined three walks and a couple of errors in the opening inning to push across five unearned runs.

Benjamin Boyer knocked in Northwestern’s only run of the game with a first-inning RBI double. Justin Augustus and Shaun O’Donnell also recorded hits for the Tigers (1-4).

SOFTBALL

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Palmerton rallied for five runs in the seventh inning to defeat Pen Argyl, 10-7, in Colonial League action.

Mikayla Pengelly sparked the Bombers’ attack with two singles, two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base, while Sydney Frantz added two singles, a double and three RBIs. Cadee Monjone chipped in with two singles and an RBI for Palmerton.

Palmerton moves to 3-1 overall (2-1 CL), while Pen Argyl falls to 2-1 (1-1) on the season.

Allen-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley erupted for nine-runs in the fourth inning and rolled to a 12-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Allen.

Trailing 2-0 after three innings of play, the Bears turned things around late and went on to post the mercy-rule victory.

Kailyn Getz was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate for the Bears, with a run scored and an RBI. Danica Getz (single, double, two runs scored, RBI), Sam Ratti (single, double, three RBIs) and Eve Kratzer (single, double, run scored) also contributed to the Pleasant Valley attack.

Jim Thorpe-Executive EA

Amanda Goodchild threw a six-hit shutout and struck out 15 batters to lead Jim Thorpe to a 9-0 non-league victory over Executive Education Academy.

Tara McLean led the Olympians offensively with four hits and two RBIs. Kristin Pompa added two hits, including a home run. Taylor Mourdant knocked in two runs.

Jim Thorpe is now 2-1 on the season.

MMI Prep-Marian

Morgan Kelly had a 16-strikeout game on the mound to go along with a three-hit day at the plate as Marian rolled to a 9-2 non-league win over MMI Prep.

Jackie Guth and Julia Meiss both had two hits for Marian, while Eden Fleming added a two-run double. Alise Heisey, Gracie Gallagher and Anna Grabosky also chipped in hits.

The Fillies improved to 2-0 on the season.

Catasauqua-Panther Valley

Delaney Troxell tossed a no-hitter to lift Catasauqua to a 4-0 non-league win over Panther Valley. Troxell struck out 14.

The Panthers’ Brenna Beshock pitched well in a losing effort as she struck out five and only allowed five hits in seven innings.

Cora Soltis sparked the Roughies’ offense with three doubles and two RBIs.

Panther Valley slips to 0-2, while Catty improves to 2-1.

Lincoln LA-Weatherly

Madisyn Von Frisch was on fire from within the circle as her 20-strikeout performance highlighted Weatherly’s 10-2 non-conference win over Lincoln Leadership Academy.

The Wreckers’ ace surrendered just one hit - a fifth inning single to Sianni Pujals. The Lions runs were both unearned as the Wreckers committed three errors in the game.

Von Frisch helped herself in the batter’s box, as she finished with a single, three runs scored and two RBIs. Juliette Bartel added a single and a run scored for Weatherly.

Sadie Berger’s perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate highlighted Kutztown’s 6-2 non-league win over Tamaqua.

Ashley Noecker added a two-run home run for the Cougars.

The Blue Raiders’ Hailey Williams was also perfect in the batter’s box, going 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and an RBI. Teammate Riley MacMillan also chipped in with an RBI-double and scored a run.

Lehighton swept a doubleheader from Pottsville.

The Indians posted 4-1 victories in both matches.

Aaron Miller earned wins in both matches at No. 1 singles for the Indians, but against two different Tide opponents.

Daniel Hoppes also recorded two wins for the Indians - one at No. 3 singles in the first match and one at No. 2 singles in the second match.
