Local Roundup: Results from April 1

Lehighton’s baseball team reached double-digit scoring for the third straight game to gain a victory over Lincoln Leadership on Friday.

Northern Lehigh and Northwestern both had 10-run innings to produce softball wins, while Pleasant Valley’s girls lacrosse reached double digits in the first half in downing Parkland.

BASEBALL

Lincoln Leadership-

Lehighton

Lehighton exploded for 20 runs in the second inning to rout Lincoln Leadership, 20-1.

Aiden Rarick finished with two hits (one a double), two runs and three RBIs to lead the Indians offensively. Rarick also tossed two hitless innings, striking out three, to pick up the win.

The Tribe, now 3-0, also received a pair of hits, runs and RBIs from both Talan Sensinger and Austin Greene. Carter Birnbaum contributed two hits, two runs and three RBIs.

Brady O’Donnell added a hit, RBI and three runs, while Noah Barndt chipped in with a hit, knocked in a pair and scored twice.

Northwestern-Notre Dame

Northwestern held a lead after four innings, but Notre Dame rallied to post an 8-5 Colonial League victory.

A four-run fourth inning, highlighted by Robert Croneberger’s two-run double and Wesley George’s RBI single, allowed the Tigers to take a 5-4 advantage.

The Crusaders, however, tallied twice in both the fifth and sixth frames to pull out the win.

George finished with two hits and two runs for Northwestern, which dropped to 1-3. Notre Dame, now 3-0, received two hits, two RBIs and four runs scored from Collin Quintano.

Northern Lehigh-Pen Argyl

Reid Holden slugged a three-run homer during Pen Argyl’s six-run first inning to lead the Green Knights to a 9-3 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Holden finished with four RBIs in the contest, while George Plutz contributed three hits, a run and an RBI, and Brad Lawless added a pair of hits and two runs.

For the Bulldogs, Cole Hausman had two hits. Nick Buskirk chipped in with a double and a run, with Jack Tosh ending with a hit, run and RBI.

Pen Argyl is now 1-3, while Northern Lehigh drops to 0-5.

PM East-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley led on two different occasions, but Pocono Mountain East rallied both times to claim an 8-6 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.

The Bears jumped out to a 4-0 start, only to see the Cardinals come back to tie the game in the third inning. PV then plated a pair of runs in the fifth to go ahead, but a four-run sixth by East proved to be the difference.

Julian Lopez provided the go-ahead runs in the sixth with a two-run homer. The Cardinal player finished with two hits and five RBIs.

PV received three hits and a run from Andrew Meitzler, while Nathan Loch finished with two hits and a pair of runs. Dominic Payan added two hits, a run and an RBI, with Ben Mostosky contributing a hit and two RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Northern Lehigh-Pen Argyl

Northern Lehigh put together a 10-run sixth inning to gain a 13-10 Colonial League comeback victory over Pen Argyl.

The Bulldogs’ Kaitlyn Stock had a two-run double and an RBI single during the big inning, while Arabella Heintzelman added a two-run double and Skyeler Horack delivered a two-run single.

Jordyn Hemingway, who had an RBI single in that sixth frame, finished the game with four hits and three runs. Stock ended with three hits and the three RBIs. Cadence Peters, Heintzelman and Hayley Thoder each contributed two hits, with Thoder knocking in two runs and Heintzelman adding two runs to her two RBIs.

Northern Lehigh is now 2-3, while Pen Argyl drops to 2-1.

Northwestern-Notre Dame

Morgan Farthing and Brynn Balliet both hit home runs to power Northwestern to a 14-6 Colonial League victory over Notre Dame.

The Tigers put the game away early, scoring 10 runs in the opening inning.

Farthing finished with three hits to lead the 16-hit attack. Hannah Lilly paced the Crusaders withe three hits.

Balliet also picked up the pitching win, improving Northwestern’s record to 4-0.

Fleetwood-Lehighton

Fleetwood pounded out 18 hits to cruise to a 17-2 non-league victory over Lehighton.

Kylie Krauss opened the game with a homer, and the runs kept coming for the Tigers.

Krauss finished with three hits, three runs and three RBIs, as did Megan Brattley. Emily Miller also contributed three hits and three runs.

The Indians received hits from Maggie Pagotto, Makayla Scott and Abbie Miller.

The loss dropped Lehighton to 1-1.

PM East-Pleasant Valley

Pocono Mountain East was able to outlast Pleasant Valley 22-12 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference contest.

Emily Dubisz was 5-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored for the Cardinals (2-0), who pounded out 24 hits. Mikenna Price added a home run, a double among her four hits and knocked in five while also scoring four runs. M. McLain added two doubles among her four hits with five runs scored and an RBI. Olivia Handelong (double, two runs scored, RBI) and A. Carlson (double, four RBIs, three runs scored) also had three hits apiece in the win.

Danica Getz was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Bears (0-2), who led 6-3 after the first inning. Brianca Pridham also doubled twice with two RBIs and two runs scored while Sam Ratti had a home run and four RBIs, Lydia Borger doubled, and Kailyn Getz tripled.

Shenandoah-Panther Valley

A late rally lifted Shenandoah Valley to a 13-9 win over Panther Valley in Schuylkill League action.

DeAngelo and H. Sosna each had a single and a home run for the Devils (1-0), who scored six runs in the sixth inning after trailing 8-6. Kozlosky added three singles and an RBI.

Mikayla Yuricheck was 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBIs for the Panthers (0-1). Brenna Beshock was 2-for-5 with two singles, two RBIs, while Liz Rex also added two singles and two RBIs.

Sch. Haven-Jim Thorpe

Schuylkill Haven led from start to finish, handing Jim Thorpe a 10-6 defeat.

Homan led the Hurricanes with two hits and three runs scored. The winners also received a pair of hits from both Kaleigh Book and Emma Osatchuck.

The Olympians’ Jada Mahmde finished with two hits and a pair of runs, while Tara McLean added three hits, one a double, and a run.

Thorpe is now 0-1, and Haven is 1-2.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Pleasant Valley-Parkland

Alexandra Bush had six goals and an assist to help Pleasant Valley gain its first win of the season - a 17-6 victory over Parkland.

Brielle McInaw also had a strong showing for the Bears, who led 11-2 at halftime, finishing with five goals and a helper.

Devon Bush added three goals to the winning effort, while Madison Fava, Keylee Dugey and Emily Butler each chipped in with one. Olivia Iandoli picked up two assists, with Fava earning one.

The Trojans received three goals from Gig Leonzi.

PV improved to 1-2, while Parkland dropped to 2-2.

TENNIS Blue Mountain-Lehighton

Blue Mountain posted a 4-1 win over Lehighton.

Aaron Miller posted a victory at No. 1 singles for the Tribe (1-3).

With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-3.
