Weissport to fix merry-go-round

Weissport Borough Council will move forward with repairing the merry-go-round in the borough park.

Council had been waiting for money that was supposed to be provided by the defunct Redneck Festival Committee, which was promised over a year ago. Council decided not to wait any longer and will make the necessary repairs.

“I think we should get it done,” Councilwoman Brenda Leiby said. “As it is, I think it’s a hazard and should be repaired.”

“All the wood needs to be replaced and then repainted, and the metal parts need to be repainted, too,” Councilman Tom Ketchledge said. “I’ll get some measurements and see what we need, and have the information and costs for the next meeting.”

Volunteers from Hope Community Fellowship Church, Bridge Street in Weissport, have offered to help with the work.

Weissport Borough Council voted to purchase a Tomahawk Power 3.5 HP Honda Vibratory Rammer Tamper with Honda GX120R Engine at a cost of between $2,700 and $3,000 from Home Depot. Because it will be used for road repairs, it can be purchased using liquid fuels money.

“It will be used when we do the blacktopping, filling potholes, for the work being done in the park, by the new garages,” council President Arland Moyer said. “It is used to tamp down dirt and rock when we do the various work around the borough.”

The Sewer Authority would be able to use it as well. In order to use Liquid Fuels to purchase it, the borough would buy it and the Sewer Authority could rent it from the borough as needed.

The Municipal Liquid Fuels Program funds a range of projects to support construction, reconstruction, maintenance and repair of public roads or streets.

Hope Community Fellowship Church will once again host two movie nights in the Weissport Borough Park.

The spring program will be held May 13, rain date May 14; and the second will be Aug. 19, rain date Aug. 20.

More details will be released at a later date.
