Pleasant Valley All Sports Club seeks officers

The Pleasant Valley All Sports Club is in need of officers.

School board director Teresa Greggo teamed up with board Vice President Laura Jecker and unveiled a flier at the school board meeting on March 21 to encourage people to volunteer to be an officer of the club.

Jecker said the last two officers will be done on June 15.

“They are having a really hard time getting people to step up,” Jecker said at a district planning meeting when the idea of the flier was first announced to the school board.

“They are the heart and soul of the sports in our district,” she said.

Greggo, who is the chairman of the athletic committee, said the officers have been in these roles for a long time and they want to stop. They started when their children were in high school and played sports, but now their children are grown and have been out of school for a long time. She said one of the officers told her that she wants to spend time with grandchildren.

“It’s time for me to move on and someone else to step up,” Greggo said the woman told her.

The All Sports Club raises money for the school district’s sports teams, and the booster clubs for each sport fall under the umbrella of the All Sports Club. The club also helps to run the concession stands and shops for it. They also provide athletic scholarships and purchase equipment for the sports teams.

At the school board meeting, Jecker demonstrated how anyone who is interested in learning more about the positions can click on the links in the flier. If they want to volunteer, then they can click on a second link to apply.

Officers do not have to be parents with children in the sports. They can be aunts, uncles or anyone who is interested in helping. For more information, people can go to the school district’s website and click on the Support Our Students tab. The link ishttps://bit.ly/3Lwa1jy.

The school board also honored two men involved in the sports programs at the middle school for their life saving action in March. Derek Snyder, a trainer with St. Luke’s University Health Network, and Michael Ditty, a volunteer with softball, jumped into action when a student at the middle school had a medical episode and became unconscious. They performed CPR and the student was revived. After being taken to the hospital, the student is recovering from the medical emergency.

Superintendent James Konrad read a proclamation and presented the men with plaques in honor of their heroic deeds.

The school district also honored one student from every grade as students of the month for March. These students include:

• Kindergarten: Madison Lanusse

• First: Hunter Fallat

• Second: Adalyn Haydt

• Third: Gil Portillo Ramirez

• Fourth: Pierre Vale

• Fifth: Wes Flickner

• Sixth: Caelie Boyd

• Seventh: Averie Acevedo

• Eighth: Ciara Watson

• Ninth: Abygail Borger

• Tenth: Ellie Lata

• Eleventh: Emma Bergstresser

• Twelfth: Ashley Molino.

Each student came to the front of the auditorium with their parents to receive a certificate. They were recognized for various reasons such as admirable classroom behavior, positive attitude and volunteer worker.
