Woman assaults police, threatens to kill caretaker
An Albrightsville woman has been charged with assaulting several state police troopers after being taken into custody for threatening to stab and kill her caretaker.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Tristan Bennett of the Pennsylvania State Police Fern Ridge barracks in the case against Tina Bryant:
At 2:13 p.m. Feb. 4, police were dispatched to Kipling Lane (Spectrum Community Services) in Penn Forest Township for a report of a domestic involving a woman with a knife.
Police were told Bryant, 32, walked out of the residence earlier in the day at around 1 p.m. and was located by state police a short time later and was returned home.
The caretaker said that after state police left the residence, Bryant retrieved a steak knife from the kitchen drawer and walked outside the residence and threatened to stab and kill him.
The caretaker said he locked the entry door, contacted 911 and waited for police to arrive.
After seeing that Bryant had calmed down, he unlocked the door. Bryant re-entered the residence and went straight upstairs to her bedroom with the knife in hand, and was yelling and screaming in her bedroom.
Trooper Matthew Kizis located Bryant in her bedroom holding the knife. He told her to drop the knife and she complied.
Kizis attempted to take Bryant into custody with the assistance of troopers Brandon Hafner and Brendon King. Bryant resisted by kicking Hafner in the face and spitting on him twice and punching King in the face.
The on-call Carbon County Assistant District Attorney was notified and approved having Bryant committed for a mental health evaluation.
Bryant faces charges on two counts each of simple assault, aggravated assault, and assault of law enforcement officer; along with one count of terroristic threats.
She is currently free on $20,000 unsecured bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing April 6 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
