Free-throw time

The Knights of Columbus are holding a free throw competition in the parking lot at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Boys and girls from age 9 to 14 are welcome to come and participate.

St. Patrick’s event

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration at 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available after Mass or can be purchased at the church office.

The menu includes corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes and a dessert with coffee or tea. Other beverages, beyond a complimentary one, will be available for purchase. Tickets are limited, so call the church at 610-681-6137. Entertainment will feature the Lozier family on bagpipes.

GS cookies

Girl Scouts from Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will be selling cookies before and after the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

Riders meeting

The American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, Riders’ monthly meeting is at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Guests are welcome.

Sunday services

• Effort UMC will hold Sunday services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. with Communion at both services. The 8:30 service will also be livestreamed and can viewed at effortumc.org. Click on the menu bar and then on Livestream.

Sunday School/Body Building classes are being held during the 11 a.m. service.

Classes include Body Building for children who will be age 3 on or before Sept. 1; pre-teens for children who will be age 9 on or before Sept. 1; and teens or children who will be age 12 on or before Sept. 1.

Mask wearing will be optional except for children between the ages of 3 and 11 as the CDC is still recommending those children who are unvaccinated wear a mask. If people are more comfortable wearing a mask, please do. The church does still encourage social distancing and singing has resumed.

• McMichaels UMC will offer Holy Communion at its Sunday service.

Pastor Chefs

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church’s Father Bob is heading to a kitchen rumble.

All funds raised by the congregation will be used for the purchase of new banquet chairs for McCawley Hall.

Fellowship breakfast

Effort UMC will once again hold a fellowship breakfast. It will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday. This is a free will donation event with the proceeds going to the church Capital Improvement Fund.

Monday bingo

The Legion Post in Gilbert will again hold its bingo night open to the public on Monday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with card sales and games starting at 7 p.m.

AL Riders meet

The American Legion Riders are meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Gilbert Legion. Guests are welcome.

Women’s Group

The Women’s Group of Effort is meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, at Effort UMC. This meeting will include: devotions, scheduling hostesses for the year and making plans for the group’s activities.

Shawl ministry

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl ministry will meet again on Tuesday to continue creating tangible gifts of caring.

Community dinner

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free meal, by way of a drive-thru from 5 to 6 p.m. March 16.

Food distribution

The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown, at 516 Kunkletown Road, is scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to noon March 19. It helps those in need in Polk, Ross, Chestnuthill and Eldred townships as well as local surrounding communities.

Fly fishing class

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced Intro to Fly Fishing with Brodhead Chapter of Trout Unlimited set for 9 a.m. March 19.

The class portion will be at Brodhead Creek Heritage Center, 1539 Cherry Lane Road, East Stroudsburg. Instruction includes: basic equipment, knot tying, fly casting, types of flies and what they imitate, reading water.

Preregistration is required and there is a 24 student maximum. There is a minimal cost per person.

Spaghetti benefit

Christ Hamilton Lutheran Church on Bossardsville Road will be hosting a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. March 19 to benefit Valor Clinic.
