Monroe Commissioners outlines $58M courthouse expansion

The Monroe County Commissioners provided an update on the roughly $58 million County Courthouse Expansion project that consists of the renovation and expansion of the existing Monroe County Courthouse.

Commissioner John Moyer asked Commissioner John Christy to comment on the nature of a number of change orders.

“What happens is when you are in the ground doing a project, that is when we run into some situations that are not anticipated. We had to put in a catch basin revisions that came from the borough, after we had already submitted our plans, they were changes they put in,” Christy said.

He went on to explain that there are always some things you miss.

“Silly things like paper towel dispensers in the bathrooms, we had some chase work that we had to get in, and that work was not anticipated. So there is all those things we have come to thus far in our current month, as you can see,” he said.

According to Moyer, $5 million has been set aside for things such as change orders and other unforeseen things that might happen. “We are not even close to using up the $5 million,” he said.

Change orders include:

• Wind Gap Electric, additional $18,882.

• Lobar Construction, $214,875.72, includes storm pipe in courtyard for $1,674.75; partitions/flooring for $4,170.29, temporary walls for $3,214.89; beams and interior lintel detail and $11,054.19; upgrade paper towel dispenser for $8,667.42; additional hardware for $2,800.16; spray fireproofing for $5,473.55; added beams for $18,541.42; additional work at basin for $19,094.77; catch basin revisions, $137,897.72.
