Over $38K, 11 pounds of marijuana seized in Jim Thorpe

A Jim Thorpe man faces charges after a search warrant yielded over $38,000 and 11 pounds of suspected marijuana.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by narcotics agent with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Bureau of Narcotics Investigations and Drug Control in the case against Chris Childs:

On Feb. 15, a narcotics agent searched a home Spruce Avenue in Jim Thorpe and the following items were seized:

• $38,521 cash, in various denominations

• Money counter.

• Numerous plastic bags containing about 11 pounds of suspected marijuana.

• Ledgers and owe sheets.

• Digital scales.

• About half a pound of Psilocybin mushrooms.

• Postal boxes and shipping labels.

• Marijuana shatter.

• 92 THC vape cartridges.

Childs, 23, was inside the residence and was the sole occupant at the time.

When advised there was a search warrant for his residence, Childs said he had some “weed” in the house, and he was advised of his constitutional rights.

A field test was conducted on a sample of the suspected marijuana, which produced a positive reaction for the presence of marijuana.

Childs faces charges on two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance; along with one count of use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 2 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
