Police investigate road rage shooting on I-78 in Lehigh County

A driver on Interstate 78 in Lehigh County pulled a gun on another driver and then fired a shot at his vehicle before fleeing the scene at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

State police at the Belfast barracks said the victim is a 75-year-old man from Bethlehem who was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe on the interstate near the Lehigh Street exit when the incident took place.

Police said the victim was traveling in the right lane of traffic when a Dodge Charger behind him, being operated in an aggressive manner, began to pass, at which time the driver of the passing vehicle pointed a handgun out the window, aiming it at the victim.

Police said the victim was able to drive away from the assailant and once safe, stopped at the Hellertown exit.

He had a bullet hole in the rear bumper of his vehicle.

The elderly man drove to the state police barracks at Bethlehem to report the incident.
