FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS

Franklin Township supervisors approved the following items on Tuesday:

• Hired the law firm Lieberman, Tamulonis & Hobbs to dispute the claim for Christman Ballfield’s concession stand. Previously, water pipes burst, which resulted in flooding that caused a mold issue at the concession stand.

• A resolution prohibiting alcoholic beverages at township recreational areas.

• Carol Andrew as the custodian of the Phifer’s Ice Dam Pavilion.

• The resignation of Charyn Ayoub as an alternate sewage enforcement officer as of Feb. 14 due to other employment.

• A contract for diesel fuel and heating oil to George’s P&H LLC.

• The sale of any unused equipment behind the township building.

• Rebid for 10,000 gallons of 87 Octane No/Lead Gasoline At-the-Pump, with the bid opening to occur at the board’s March 15 meeting.

• The use of Fleet Cards for fuel purchases on all township vehicles, pending receipt of unleaded gasoline bids at the board’s March 15 meeting.

• The website update at a cost of $3,000, and also agreed to change the township’s domain name to .gov.

• Mobile text alerts at a cost of $826.

• On a 2-0 vote, with an abstention from board Chairman Fred Kemmerer, approved Workers’ Compensation policy to add the fire company’s 35 auxiliary members.

• Request from the Franklin Township Lions’ Club, Pohopoco Rod and Gun Club, and the National Wild Turkey Federation for exclusive use of the Phifer’s Ice Dam (largest pond only) for the following dates: May 7, Lions Club Fishing Contest; May 8, National Wild Turkey Federation Youth Fishing Rodeo; May 15, Pohopoco Rod and Gun Club Youth Fishing Day Event.

• Limiting the fishing in the largest dam (only) at the Phifer’s Ice Dam Park to any youth less than 16 years of age for 30 days beginning May 7 until June 6 at 12 a.m.

• Officer David Roberts’ attendance to a “Child Abuse Investigations” training Feb. 22-23 beginning at 9 a.m. each day at no cost to the township.

• The Franklin Township Athletic Association’s Auxiliary to hold its meeting at the township administration office Feb. 20, March 20, April 10 and May 15 at 6 p.m.

• The Franklin Township fire police to aid in directing traffic for the Franklin Township Lions’ Club Picnic in the Park event from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 18.

• Use of Bunker Hill Ballfield by the Coaldale Tigers from March-October, two to three times a week, and will coordinate schedules with Lehighton Softball.

• Adopted the Carbon County 2021 Hazard Mitigation Plan.

• Reminded residents to not plow/shovel snow onto township roadways.

• Electronic recycling event will be held from 9-11 a.m. April 9.
