Valentine’s love

Club members of the Western Pocono Women’s Club reached out and touched lives by way of giving 65 cards to the Blue Ridge TV “Touch A Heart” Campaign which were to be delivered to veterans, soldiers and nursing home residents.

Among the heart helpers were club members Stacy Meckes, Kris Meckes, Lynne Mazar, Lisa Altemose and Vicki Connor.

Other members will continue making lap quilts this week to be donated to Meals on Wheels.

Reservations due

Those men wishing to attend the men’s conference at Our Lady Queen of Peace are reminded to send an email to Jim Biondo at jimbiondo@outlook.com or call 570-466-1090. Free dinner

Zion Lutheran will again be hosting a free community dinner by way of drive-thru pickup from 5 to 6 p.m. today.

The meal being served is ham, green beans and potatoes.

Eldred meeting

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is meeting at 7 tonight. There will be a presentation about creating a mixed use village center overlay district for the village of Kunkletown.

Public comment is welcomed. Residents are invited to join the meeting for more information or to comment on the project.

League meeting

The West End Little League is having its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.

Blood drive

On Friday, there will be an American Red Cross blood drive at the Pleasant Valley High School.

Chestnuthill seniors

People attending the Chestnuthill Senior Center, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesdays and Fridays, are reminded to make a meal reservation one day ahead of time by calling 570-242-6770.

Being served on Friday this week is baked fish Thermidor and next Wednesday, stuffed chicken breast.

Methodist men

The Men’s Group of Effort UMC will be meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The group has breakfast, a biblical lesson with discussion and fellowship with men of similar mind.

Soup & bake sale

McMichaels UMC is holding a homemade soup and bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

There will be a large selection of soups and baked goods. Baked goods will be sold whole or by a single piece.

Attendees are asked to wear a mask as they drop by and make their selections. The event is takeout only.

The church continues to host Serenity Narcotics Anonymous, which meets every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

The meeting is open to all who need to talk and fellowship with those who understand what one is experiencing and how to get the help one needs and the desire to overcome one’s problem.

The meeting is free and confidential.

Alcoholics Anonymous will be meeting every Wednesday at noon and every Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

For assistance with this issue, join one or both of these meetings and receive help.

Attendees will be gathering with others who understand.

Bingo night

The Pleasant Valley All-Sports Club: Bears Baseball is hosting a Bingo Night on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley High School Cafe.

Bigs needed

Big Brothers & Big Sisters are in need as there are numerous boys and girls in Monroe County looking for a mentor in the program. Most are 8, 9, 10 years old, and some have been on the waiting list for over a year.

Effort UMC is holding Sunday worship services at 8:30 and 11:15 a.m.

The annual West End Home Association/Post 927 is slated to be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church has announced Sunday school for all from 6 to 6:45 p.m. for this Sunday via Zoom.

American Legion Post 927 is holding its open-to-community bingo night Monday. Games begin at 7 p.m. Card sales begin at 6:30.

Food specials will be available.

Republican Club

The West End Republican Club is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville.

Individuals planning to eat before the meeting are asked to be there at 6 p.m.

Soup orders end

Effort UMC is holding its last soup sale until September. Orders for chicken pot pie soup or hearty beef vegetable noodle will be taken through next Wednesday. The pickup date is Feb. 27.

PVEN needs

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network can use donations of: shampoo; conditioner; hair products such as hair spray, mousse, etc.; shaving cream; razors; body wash; bladder control pads such as Poise; adult diapers; baby lotions; baby shampoo; baby soap.

Donate them to one’s respective cooperating church or take them directly to the PVEN in Sciota.

Fall prevention

A free program about fall prevention is being offered at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville by Monroe County Area Agency on Aging on Feb. 23 and Feb. 25.

It will include information about fall prevention, home safety and talking to doctors.

In addition, attendees can learn some safe and easy exercises to help maintain one’s independence.

Registration is required.

Church town hall

Our Lady Queen of Peace is holding a town hall meeting for parishioners from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 for parishioners to discuss two questions.

Those planning to come are invited to a light supper.

PMUW’s 80th

Pocono Mountains United Way is turning 80 and is celebrating that event by way of an ’80s kickoff event being held at Mountain View Vineyard from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25.

Free classes

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging is offering a chronic disease self-management program at the Loder Senior Center in East Stroudsburg for folks struggling with diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

Classes, which are free, are 2½ hours from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and begin March 1 and continue for five additional weeks.

Habitat help

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is looking for help and to give help.

Many volunteers are needed to do the many helpful acts Habitat can do for those with needs, including repairs to stop drafts, leaks, and other things that need fixing.

Lasagna dinner

Effort UMC is taking preorders for a fundraising lasagna dinner which will be takeout only and held on March 19. Pickup will be available from 3 to 6 p.m. The meal includes: lasagna, salad, garlic bread and a dessert. This year the church is selling dinners individually (single serving).

Concert coming

The MJMT & Band will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on March 27. The event begins at 6 p.m.
