Longtime Palmerton teacher retires, another resigns

Palmerton Area School District’s board of directors approved several personnel moves Tuesday night including the retirement of a longtime physical education teacher.

Carol Andrews, who also teaches health at the high school, is retiring effective June 30.

“Carol does an outstanding job and she really puts her heart and soul into teaching,” Director Audrey Larvey, Andrews’ colleague for many years in Palmerton, said. “She has been an asset to this district, and after 28 years with us and over 30 years total, she is certainly ready for a happy, satisfying retirement.”

Board President Tammy Recker called Andrews “a consistent friend.”

“When I saw her retirement submitted, I immediately called her, and the one thing I really love about Carol is you always know where you stand with her,” Recker said. “I wish her well, and she told me she’ll be doing some teaching at East Stroudsburg University following this retirement.”

Palmerton also accepted the resignation of high school art teacher Lyndsey Heinrich, effective at the end of the 2021-22 school year.

“This one stings because she’s a graduate and a wonderful art teacher,” Larvey said. “The things she did, particularly during COVID-19, were really outstanding. She’s going on to start a new chapter in her life and we wish her the best.”
