A multiuse training center for emergency responders in Carbon County is moving along, officials say.
On Thursday, the Carbon County Commissioners approved a change order for the emergency operations and training center phase 1B, which includes additional electrical and site work at the Broad Mountain location, as well as extending the contract to Oct. 1, 2022. The added cost to the contract with Kobalt Construction Inc. of Tobyhanna is $17,986.91.
Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said some of the changes are a requirement of PPL, while others are stabilization issues with the bank at the site.
He noted that the project is moving along, with the blocks for the police building going up and crews working through the winter months.
Nothstein added that the burn building redesign is being finalized and will begin construction soon.
The project is still on schedule for an end of July completion date.
Carbon County has been working on the emergency operations and training center project since 2015.
In August, the commissioners approved bids totaling approximately $5.2 million for the four-story fire training tower and burn rooms, as well as a two-story observation building with single-story police training room.
