A woman and four children died during a house fire Thursday night in Polk Township.

The fire broke out at 11:21 p.m. at the home in the 5100 block of Brook Road in Kunkletown.

Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac confirmed this morning the woman and her four children died.

According to scanner reports, three dogs were rescued from the house with no apparent injuries.

Yanac said it remains an active investigation.

Lehighton State Police and State Police at Hazleton are investigating.

A state fire marshal was called to the scene.

Among those assisting at the scene were Polk Township Fire Company, West End Fire Company, Penn Forest Fire Company No. 2, and multiple EMS agencies.
